Here in Canada, the snow has finally melted, spring has arrived, the VIB sale has come and gone. Of course, I’m not one ever to pass up a discount. So of course, off my paycheque went – into the moisturized hands of Sephora.
So I thought I would do a quick post to share some thoughts on my first-time purchases and re-purchases.
Let’s start off with the newbies because the first time is always more exciting đ
First-time purchases
Lancome Monsieur Big Waterproof Mascara – $31
Okay so believe it or not, I didn’t actually just get this because of the name. I did some research, because ya girl has been lash-deprived. When last we spoke about my lashes, I had extensions. I since had them removed because of $$$ and allergies. Anyway, I needed something volumizing and waterproof because I cry A LOT (not in a sad way, don’t worry…but that’s okay too). When I first applied this, I was SHOOK. I instantly saw a boom boom in my bedroom, on my lashes. This mascara has quickly become my favourite, replacing even my Miss Manga from L’Oreal. The only downside is, too many applications can lead to spider lashes and clumpiness.
Would I repurchase? UM YES. I would probably stock up on this if it was more affordable…
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick “Poet” – $26
So technically this isn’t a first time. It’s more like you’re on a diet, and you swear you want to try new foods out but you end up at McDonald’s because it’s SUH GUD (not #sponsored but I’m open to it, McD’s). What I really meant to say is, that Anastasia Beverly Hills is so magnetic as a brand. I always want to try new liquid lipsticks out, but I always end up gravitating back to this household name, and for a good reason! Not only is this beautiful rosy pink perfect for spring, the formula holds up well like the rest of its counterparts. It’s not drying, doesn’t transfer as much (unless it comes into contact with liquid or oil) and it’s long-lasting (I wear them for my 8-hour shifts until the end). I especially love that the tip of the applicator is narrow and flexible for precision.
Would I repurchase? Yes, if I ran out.
Bare Minerals Matte Foundation “Golden Deep” – $36
So, I was actually interested in trying out a skin tone setting powder and I stumbled across Bare Minerals as a setting powder recommendation in the Sephora app. When I tried it, I admit the colour I chose was a shade darker than what I had wanted. I contemplated returning it, especially since I am hella oily and it’s actually a foundation powder more than a setting powder. However, when combined with a mattifying primer, it works well to top off my face on those concealer only days. It will also work well with my tanned skintone in the summer (as I imagine I will be toasted like a hot cross bun soon enough). I probably wouldn’t recommend wearing it by itself if you’re oily like me, outside in the summer as it gets cakey. I might go for it on lighter, cooler days in AC haha.
Would I repurchase? Probably not.
Laura Mercier Fusion Ultra Longwear Concealer – $36
I’ve been in search of a heavier duty concealer since the beginning of time. Of course, I’ve tried the notorious Nars concealer, but it doesn’t sit well on my greasy, KFC-textured skin. So when I saw this new concealer by Laura Mercier, I was intrigued. Many of you might know Laura Mercier from their incredible setting powder, so of course, I had high expectations. I’m proud to say, it definitely delivered. This concealer is incredibly long-lasting. I even had it on through my work day and workout! I would describe it as medium to full coverage, depending on how much you use. I also love that the wand is smol and flexible to get into all the nooks and crannies!
Would I repurchase? Maybe if I run out and I have no drugstore options. I’ve been using it so much these past two weeks though…
Re-purchases
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer Mini – $24
Why did I repurchase?
This primer is my holy grail especially as the weather gets warmer. In my experience, it is the only primer that has tamed the beast that is my skin. It mattifies and smoothes my skin for long periods of wear. It also helps with the application of my makeup. Everything goes on smooth for a flawless finish. The only drawback is that it carries a hefty price. I usually opt for the travel size and use it on special occasions.
Ole Henriksen Transforming Walnut Scrub – $34
Why did I repurchase?
Like the name implies, this scrub has transformed my life and my face. It is one of my skincare must-haves for a deep cleanse. I love that the scrub smells so sweet and not at all nauseating like some skincare products. It also goes a long way. With this scrub, a little bit goes a long way for a noticeable glow. I find it works even better combined with my Spin for Perfect Skin brush. It’s an exfoliating scrub so I don’t recommend using it daily as it will irritate your skin with the repetitive friction.
That’s all, folks. As always, I hope this was helpful (maybe not to your bank account). What did you guys get from the VIB sale this year?
Until next time,
Hope you have a blossom spring
